OET SURCHARGE


The Minnesota Office of Enterprise Technology recently sponsored and the Minnesota Legislature passed legislation requiring a 10% surcharge of no less than $5.00 and no more than $150 on EACH business, commercial, professional, or occupational license.  The funding from the surcharge will go to OET, which will establish an electronic licensing system for the state.


THIS SURCHARGE IS NOT A LICENSE FEE, HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BOARD OF OPTOMETRY, AND IS NOT MANAGED BY THE BOARD EXCEPT FOR ITS COLLECTION.

Minnesota Statutes 148.52 - 148.62 and Minnesota Rules, chapter 6500 provide the Minnesota Board of Optometry authority to act as the licensure agency for the practice of optometry.

Mission

  • Promoting public interest in receiving quality optometric health care from competent licensed optometrists.

  • Protecting the public by ensuring that all licensed optometrists meet the educational and practical requirements specified in law.

  • Protecting the public by setting standards for quality optometric health care

 

CONTINUING EDUCATION

 

The current two-year continuing education cycle is January 1, 2010 – December 31, 2011.  The number of CE credits you need is pro-rated depending upon the date you initially became licensed.

 

Date you initially received a license

Required number of CE units

Before January 1, 2010

40 CE units

Between January 1 and December 31, 2010

20 CE units

Between January 1 and December 31, 2011

0 CE units

 

You must report the above number of CE credits by December 31, 2011
